The biggest online shopping day of the year has arrived but if you thought Black Friday was exclusively about elbowing people out of the way in a bid to secure a cheaper toaster, then think again.

A number of airlines, including Ryanair and British Airways are running promotions covering the Black Friday weekend, while low-cost airline Norwegian will have separate deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Thomson has also joined the shopping extravaganza, announcing a series of discounts for passengers wishing to secure cheaper holiday packages.

The travel giant is offering £50 off per booking on cruises and holidays with a minimum cost of £500 per booking for winter 2016 and summer 2017 by using the code BLACK50.

The offer, which runs until 28 November, is valid both online and in store but only applies to package holidays departing between November 2016 and 31 October next year.

Meanwhile holidays to Cape Verde and holiday packages including accommodation in a villa costing over £1,000 are on sale with a £100 discount.

Thomson added both offers are available directly on its website and to access either promotion customers will have to enter the code BFCAPEVERDE for the former or BFVILLAS for the latter, which is only applicable to holidays departing between 1 May and 30 June next year.

Customers booking holidays from Scotland can save an extra £60 by using the code BFSCOTLAND on the payment page or in store, but the offer is only available on Black Friday and Cyber Monday (28 November).

As it is often the case on Black Friday, a few caveats apply and the offer is limited to flights departing from Aberdeen Airport, Glasgow International Airport, Edinburgh Airport or Inverness Airport between 1 May and 31 October next year.
