Former Worship Pastor Caleb Flynn Sentenced to Life Without Parole as Daughters Plead With Him To Repent
Ava and Alyssa Flynn appealed to their father's Christian faith during sentencing, while he continued to deny killing Ashley and filed an appeal

Former worship pastor Caleb Flynn was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in Ohio on 5 October 2026 after being convicted of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn. During sentencing, statements from his daughters, Ava and Alyssa, were read aloud in court as they urged him to confess and repent.
The girls' statements combined expressions of grief with appeals to their father's Christian faith. Flynn wept as their words were read, but he did not confess to killing his wife. Instead, he maintained that he would continue fighting for his innocence.
Ashley, 37, was killed at the couple's home in Tipp City, Ohio, on 16 February 2026. Prosecutors argued that Flynn planned the killing amid his relationship with Alleigha Botner, a former church intern. Flynn was subsequently convicted of his wife's murder.
Caleb Flynn's Daughters Deliver Emotional Pleas
Ava, 10, addressed her father in a statement read aloud during the proceedings. Her words moved from disbelief to grief as she recalled the relationship she believed they had shared before her mother's death.
'Dear Daddy, I don't even know where to start,' she wrote. 'How could you do such a thing? I looked up to you. I loved you with all my heart.'
She described Ashley as her 'best friend' and questioned how Flynn could have taken her away. Ava then appealed to her father's religious beliefs, urging him to acknowledge what she believed he had done and seek forgiveness.
'All you have to do is tell God that you're sorry and that you want to confess and repent to Him,' she wrote. 'I promise you it won't take away your punishment, but you will have a life in heaven someday.'
Ava acknowledged that repentance would not remove the punishment her father faced. Her statement urged him to accept responsibility while recognising that an admission could not reverse the consequences of the case.
Her older sister, Alyssa, 12, delivered a more direct message. Addressing Flynn by his first name, she urged him to accept responsibility for Ashley's death.
'I loved you deeply with all my heart, and it's sad that you can't love anyone but yourself,' she wrote. 'You have already caused so much pain to your family and the world; the least you could do is tell everyone you did it.'
Alyssa also appealed to his faith, writing, 'Also, please repent to God, the One who created you. Your time isn't over.'
Caleb Flynn's Past as a Worship Pastor Comes Under Scrutiny
Alyssa questioned how her father could have sung about his faith as a worship leader while, in her view, concealing secrets about his personal life.
'How could you stand in that church and sing about how much you love God when you knew all the secrets you had inside?' she asked.
Flynn previously appeared as a contestant on American Idol in 2013. His former involvement in church ministry also featured in his daughter's statement, which challenged the apparent contrast between his public religious role and the crime for which he was convicted.
Alyssa also said the family's suffering had not destroyed her own religious beliefs. 'Through all of what you put me through, God is going to work something out for good,' she wrote.
Her statement combined an appeal for accountability with an expression of continued faith. She urged her father to repent while maintaining her belief that God could bring something good from the family's suffering.
Flynn continued to deny murdering Ashley despite the conviction.
Ashley Flynn's Family Speaks Out as Caleb Maintains His Innocence
Ashley's sister, Kayla Keyt, also addressed Flynn in court. She spoke about the loss of Ashley and the family's determination to retain their Christian faith.
'Caleb, you took Ashley from this earth, you took a mother from her daughters, you shattered a family that trusted you,' Keyt said.
'But you did not take Jesus from them,' she continued. 'You did not take heaven from Ashley, and you did not destroy our faith.'
Keyt's remarks described the family's grief while emphasising the importance of faith in how they were responding to Ashley's death. Reports have also stated that Keyt and her husband, Matthew, are raising Ava and Alyssa.
Flynn later addressed the court, apologising to Ashley's family for breaking his wedding vows and thanking his own relatives for their 'unwavering love'. However, he did not admit to killing his wife.
'I will continue to fight for my innocence as long as the Lord allows me to,' he said.
Flynn's defence lawyer filed a notice of appeal on 7 October 2026, seeking to challenge the judgment. The filing does not mean the conviction has been overturned.
Flynn continues to maintain his innocence, while his daughters' statements made it clear that they wanted him to acknowledge responsibility and seek repentance.
