Close on the heels of his manager affirming full faith in him, Frank Lampard once again lived up to expectations. Chelsea defeated Sunderland 1-0 in the Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night as Lampard netted in the winner just 13 minutes into the game.
The Black Cats started their campaign on a firm note whereas the Blues had a rather sloppy start. The opener came when Lampard fired in the rebound after Fernando Torres's smart volley cannoned back off the bar.
Most of the credit of Chelsea's winning goal should go to Torres, but Lampard just happened to be at the right place at the right time to tap it home.
Chelsea had further chances later on, but Lampard, Juan Mata and Torres failed to cash in on them.
