Containment actor Chris Wood is joining Supergirl season 2 as a series regular. Although, what character he will play and whether he will be a friend or foe to Kara Danvers have been kept under wraps for now.

According to a report in TV Line, Wood will be playing a surprise DC Comics character, and will make his debut early in season 2. The actor, who recently wrapped his stint as Jake Riley in Containment, took to Instagram to share his excitement.

Wood posted the Supergirl emblem "S "and wrote, "Stoked". The Containment actor previously appeared in The Vampire Diaries as an evil witch.

Following Supergirl's shift from CBS to The CW for season 2, the show has added many new faces to its cast. Former Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter will play the president of the United States in Supergirl season 2. Teen Wolf actor Tyler Hoechlin is set to guest-star as Superman/Clark Kent.

Hoechlin spoke to the Daily Mail about his Man of Steel role for The CW series and teased Clark Kent sense of humour. "I never try to compare and contrast performances because it's such an iconic character already. Superman is Superman so I'm just going to try to carry on the tradition of that and play that part. I think the fun is going to be finding where Clark Kent is in this world. I'm just excited to find out Clark's sense of humor."

Season 1 finale of Supergirl ended on a cliffhanger. A Kryptonian pod that looked a similar to the one that brought Kara to Earth, crash-landed outside her apartment. The show ended with Kara opening the pod and looking shocked. Season 2 will answer who or what is in that pod, and set up a storyline for Hoechlin to make his debut as Superman and introduce Carter as US President.

Supergirl season 2 is set to premiere on Monday, 10 October at 8pm EST on The CW.
