Publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment America has announced that Dark Souls 3, the latest instalment of From Software's epic Souls franchise, is the fastest-selling game in the publisher's history. It has also broken the record for Bandai Namco's most successful day-one launch.

The developer has not released exact sales figures, but did celebrate the game's "rave reviews and incredibly strong first week sales". The company has also released a new trailer peppered with accolades from critics.

Dark Souls 3 was initially launched in Japan on 24 March and released worldwide on 12 April for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game shot to the top of the UK game charts.

The second patch for the game, version 1.04 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and 1.03.1 on PC, was released yesterday, tackling some of the game's performance issues, gameplay balance and bugs.

Bandai Namco also confirmed that the game's first DLC pack is slated for release this autumn. It will likely consist of new bosses, maps, enemies and additional weapons and armour sets. A second DLC pack is also scheduled to arrive at a later date.
