David Bowie has passed away at the age of 69 after an 18-month battle against cancer. He died surrounded by his family on 10 January, just two days after his birthday and the release of his 25th and final album, Blackstar.

It is clear now that the album was written and produced with knowledge of his illness, and possibly of its terminal nature. The death of the British legend of course casts the album in an entirely new light, a light thousands are certain to see it in when they listen to it in the days following his death.

The album's final track is a beautiful and moving farewell, with lyrics that speak of the mysterious aura that always surrounded the legendary musician, who remained an enigma until his final days and will remain one long after.

Whether any unreleased Bowie tracks will be released in the months and years ahead, we do not know, but for now Bowie's final song is a fitting and perfect goodbye to one of music's very best. Below are the song's lyrics in full.

I know something is very wrong
The pulse returns for prodigal sons
The blackout's hearts with flowered news
With skull designs upon my shoes

I can't give everything
I can't give everything
Away
I can't give everything
Away

Seeing more and feeling less
Saying no but meaning yes
This is all I ever meant
That's the message that I sent

I can't give everything
I can't give everything
Away
I can't give everything
Away

I can't give everything
I can't give everything
Away
I can't give everything
Away

I know something is very wrong
The pulse returns for prodigal sons
The blackout's hearts with flowered news
With skull designs upon my shoes

I can't give everything
I can't give everything
Away
I can't give everything
Away

I can't give everything
I can't give everything
Away
I can't give everything
Away
