Not My Momma!: Family Claims Funeral Home Cremated Loved One by Mistake and Put Wig on Wrong Corpse

A Detroit family was left devastated after they allegedly discovered that a funeral home had prepared a wrong woman's body for their mother's viewing, reportedly dressing the stranger in their loved one's clothes and wig.

The disturbing incident involved 61-year-old Kimberly Moore, whose relatives arrived expecting to see her before her funeral. Instead, they say they were confronted with a body they immediately recognised as belonging to someone else.

Family Spots Something Wrong With the Body

Moore's daughter, Bianca Robinson, reportedly became suspicious when she saw the body at Hutchinson Funeral Home. Although the woman had been dressed and prepared for the viewing, Robinson noticed details that did not match her mother.

One detail reportedly stood out immediately: a mole on Moore's toe was missing. Robinson then confronted a mortuary worker and reportedly said, 'This is not my momma, sir.'

The discovery allegedly led staff to acknowledge that something had gone seriously wrong. According to the family, they were told that Moore may have already been cremated by mistake.

Stranger Was Reportedly Wearing Moore's Wig

The situation became even more upsetting when relatives realised that the unidentified woman had reportedly been dressed in Moore's clothing and fitted with her wig.

For the family, seeing another person presented as their mother made an already painful situation even more distressing. They had expected to have a final opportunity to see Moore and say goodbye before her cremation.

Instead, they were left trying to determine how another woman's remains had been prepared in her place.

The family has alleged that Moore's body was supposed to remain at the funeral home until after the viewing. They say the apparent mix-up meant they were denied the farewell they had planned.

How Could the Alleged Mix-Up Happen?

One explanation reportedly discussed after the discovery involved identification tags attached to the bodies.

The family said they were told a toe tag may have become wet and fallen off, potentially contributing to the confusion. The women were also reportedly brought to the funeral home around a similar time.

However, the precise sequence of events remains unclear, and the family has been seeking answers about how the alleged identification error occurred and whether proper procedures were followed.

Funeral Home Says It Is Investigating

Hutchinson Funeral Home has acknowledged that an incident occurred and said it was conducting an internal review.

The funeral home reportedly expressed deep regret over what Moore's family experienced and said it would continue communicating with them while the circumstances were examined.

For the relatives, however, an investigation cannot erase the shock of what they allegedly encountered when they arrived to mourn their mother.
