Dolly Parton was hospitalised after being hurt in a car accident in Nashville, Tennessee.

The veteran country star suffered minor injuries when the vehicle she was riding in was hit by a car.

According to the Nashville police department the driver of the other car failed to yield to the Nissan Xterra SUV, in which Parton was riding as a front-seat passenger.

The Stand By Your Man hitmaker singer and her friend, 68-year-old Judy Ogle, were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to another hospital for treatment for minor injuries, police said.

In the wake of the accident Parton, 67, took to Twitter to assure fans that she had not been badly injured in the collision.

"I was in a fender bender this morning here in Nashville, but I am all good," she tweeted.

"Just a little tired and sore. Resting at home now!"
