Dolly Parton's Nephew Fired From Security Role as Estate Dispute Escalates Weeks After Her Death

Dolly Parton's nephew Bryan Seaver has been abruptly removed from the security role he held for more than 20 years, adding to tensions surrounding the country legend's affairs less than a month after her death.

Seaver and his security companies were dismissed from all Parton properties in a termination notice sent on 16 September, according to TMZ. The outlet reported that replacement guards subsequently took over security at Parton's main Nashville residence, museum, downtown property and warehouse.

The shake-up is particularly notable because Seaver was not only Parton's longtime head of security. He was also the family member she personally chose years earlier to announce her death to the world, giving him an unusually visible role in the singer's final arrangements.

Bryan Seaver Says Firing Was 'Unexpected'

Seaver, the son of Parton's sister Cassie, took over a security role previously held by his father, Larry Seaver, and said he had protected his aunt for more than two decades.

Now, Seaver and his team say they are 'dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions' taken following Parton's death, specifically naming her longtime manager Danny Nozell and Pinnacle Bank.

They also alleged that some actions were being taken in 'bad faith' and with an intention to profit from Parton's life. Those are allegations from Seaver and his team, and no court finding has established wrongdoing.

According to TMZ's description of the termination notice, Parton's properties and professional business interests are held by the DP Dean Trust. Although Seaver has lost his professional security duties, the notice states that his personal interest in the trust remains intact.

TMZ's report did not include a detailed response from Nozell or Pinnacle Bank to Seaver's allegations.

The distinction between Seaver's employment and his interest in the trust is significant. His removal from day-to-day security operations does not, based on the reported notice, remove whatever personal interest he holds under Parton's estate arrangements. That leaves the dispute focused, for now, on control of security and the management of Parton's properties rather than on a confirmed challenge to his status as a beneficiary.

Parton Chose Nephew to Announce Her Death

Parton died peacefully in Nashville on 25 August 2026 at the age of 80, according to an official announcement from her representatives.

She had requested a small private service for immediate family and asked fans wishing to honour her to support the Imagination Library.

Seaver delivered the public announcement himself, explaining that Parton had asked him years earlier to handle the responsibility when the time came.

That request reflected the level of trust Parton placed in her nephew long before her death. Seaver's role put him close not only to her personal security but also to the carefully planned way in which news of her death would eventually be shared with fans around the world.

His prominent position following her death has therefore made his sudden dismissal weeks later particularly striking.

The security change comes as responsibility for Parton's extensive business interests, properties and legacy shifts to those managing the structures she left behind.

Parton's husband, Carl Dean, died in 2025. Court records previously obtained by TMZ showed Parton was still handling aspects of his estate when she died, including personal property that could eventually pass to beneficiaries through her own estate planning.

Parton's interests extended well beyond her music catalogue, spanning property, philanthropy, entertainment ventures and other business assets accumulated during a career that lasted more than six decades. The transition following her death involves not just personal belongings but a substantial network of professional and charitable interests.

According to the termination notice reported by TMZ, Seaver's removal from the security role does not affect his personal interest in the DP Dean Trust.

His public allegations have nevertheless transformed what could have remained an internal security change into an increasingly visible dispute over how Parton's affairs are being handled following her death.
