Elon Musk Says 'No One Has Provided' More for Their Children After Jennifer Welch's Deadbeat Dad Jab
The billionaire responded on X after the podcaster questioned whether his family life matched conservatives' emphasis on family values

Elon Musk rejected podcaster Jennifer Welch's description of him as 'the biggest deadbeat dad on the globe' after a clip of her remarks about his family life circulated on X.
Responding on 11 September, Musk wrote, 'No one has provided for their children more than I have.'
The exchange followed Welch's 'deadbeat dad' comments on IHIP News, where she questioned whether Republicans who emphasise family values would apply the same standards to Musk.
Her remarks, later shared widely by the X account Defiant L's, prompted Musk to dispute the characterisation before criticising Welch personally.
Elon Musk Rejects 'Deadbeat Dad' Characterisation
Welch's criticism centred on what she described as a gap between conservative rhetoric about family values and how figures on the political right treat Musk.
During the episode, she called the Tesla chief executive 'the biggest deadbeat dad on the globe' and challenged conservatives to scrutinise his personal life as closely as they do that of political opponents.
She also said Musk 'has been spewing in petri dishes all over the globe and has God knows how many kids, and the baby mamas have to tweet him to get his attention to get child support.'
After Defiant L's reposted the segment, Musk answered directly. 'No one has provided for their children more than I have,' he wrote. He then added that Welch is 'as ugly on the inside as she is on the outside.'
The response drew thousands of reactions, with the discussion broadening beyond money. Supporters pointed to Musk's financial resources, while critics focused on his relationships with the mothers of his children and questioned how much personal involvement should factor into providing for a family.
The exchange prompted discussion online about financial support and other aspects of parental involvement.
Welch's criticism also referred to Musk's relationships with the mothers of his children and included her claim that some had experienced difficulties obtaining child support.
Musk's reply rejected the 'deadbeat dad' characterisation but did not address those allegations individually.
Elon Musk's Family Life Remains Part of Public Debate
Musk is publicly known to have fathered 14 children with four women. That total includes six children with his first wife, Justine Wilson; three with musician Grimes; four with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis; and one with influencer Ashley St. Clair, who publicly identified Musk as the father of her son Romulus in February 2025.
The count also includes Musk's first child, Nevada Alexander, who died in infancy.
One of Musk's most public family disputes has involved his transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson. She has criticised her father publicly and said they are estranged. In a 2024 Threads post, Wilson alleged that Musk was a 'serial adulterer' and said he was 'not a family man'.
Wilson's criticism has also kept Musk's private family relationships in public view, particularly when supporters and critics assess his role as a parent.
Those remarks have made Musk's family relationships part of a wider public argument over the difference between financial support and personal involvement. Welch's criticism drew on that distinction, while Musk's response addressed the issue in terms of provision.
Jennifer Welch Has Criticised Elon Musk Before
The clash was not Welch's first public criticism of Musk. On her podcast, she has previously criticised his business activities, government contracts, tax issues and political influence. At one point, she described him as an 'immigrant welfare queen' and a 'parasite.'
Welch also criticised Musk in a 2023 interview with Interview magazine, calling him a 'horrible person' and saying she was glad Mark Zuckerberg was 'taking him down.'
In his 11 September reply, Musk did not address Welch's specific claim about child support or her criticism of his personal involvement with his children. His response stayed focused on provision, then shifted to a personal remark about Welch.
