Samsung has recently rolled out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software update with build version XXDMA2 for the international Wi-Fi version of Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 bearing model number GT-P5110. The official build is available for download via Over-The-Air (OTA). To update the tablet using official method, connect the device to Wi-Fi then navigate to Settings>> About device>> Software update for an OTA update.

The XXDMA2 build is an unbranded version of firmware and can be installed on any GT-P5110 units except those which are from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Pre-requisites

1) Install USB Driver for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 to transfer files between the Android device and the computer.

2) Ensure that USB Debugging Mode is enabled on the tablet to connect the Android device with the computer and use Android SDK with it. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and check the USB Debugging Mode.]

3) The tutorial is likely to wipe all data of the tablet, therefore, create a back-up. If the device is having any custom recoveries such as CWM/TWRP already installed, then backup data using the recovery.

4) The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 should be factory unlocked and not locked to any particular carrier.

5) Verify the battery of Galaxy tablet is having above 80 per cent of charge.

6) The tablet will lose custom ROM with the installation of official firmware. Additionally, it will lose custom recovery which will be replaced by stock recovery.

7) The Galaxy tablet will no longer belong to rooted version once the official update is installed.

8) The Android 4.1.2 XXDMA2 Jelly Bean works only on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5110. Flashing this on any incorrect variant might brick the device. Therefore, verify the model number of Galaxy device by navigating to Settings>> About tablet>> Model number.

Steps to install Android 4.1.2 XXDMA2 Jelly Bean on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5110

Step-1: Download Android 4.1.2 XXDMA2 Jelly Bean official firmware for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 to the computer

Stesp-2: Extract the downloaded firmware zip to get a .tar.md5 file with few other files

Stesp-3: Download Odin3 v3.07 which will help to install the Jelly Bean firmware. Extract the Odin zip to get Odin3 v3.07.exe and some other files

Stesp-4: Turn off the Galaxy tablet and wait for five to six seconds for vibration to confirm complete power off. Boot the device into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down and Power buttons together. A warning screen will appear, press the Volume Up button to continue to enter into Download Mode

Stesp-5: Run Odin3 v3.07.exe as an Administrator

Stesp-6: Connect the Tab 2 to the computer using USB cable while it is in the Download Mode. Wait for some time until Odin detects the device. When the tablet is connected successfully ID: COM will turn yellow with the COM port number. The successful connection will be indicated by an Added message in Odin

Note: If the Added message does not come then try another USB port, try the one located at the back side of the computer. If Odin still fails to recognise the device then reinstall USB driver.

Stesp-7: Now select these files extracted from P5110XXDMA2 folder to install on the tablet

a) Click the PDA button and select the file with .tar.md5 extension

b) Click the Phone button and select file with MODEM in its name

c) Click the CSC button and select file with CSC in its name

d) Click the PIT button and select the .pit file

Note: Ignore the last three steps (b, c and d) if such files are not found.

Stesp-8: Configure Odin settings. Verify the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected in Odin window. But uncheck the Re-Partition option, select it only when a .pit file is being used

Stesp-9: Double check everything and then click the Start button in Odin. The installation process should begin now and would take few minutes to complete

Stesp-10: When the installation process is completed, the tablet will restart automatically. And soon a PASS message with green background will appear in the extreme left box at the very top of Odin indicating successful installation. Now unplug the USB cable from the tablet to disconnect it from the computer

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 should be now updated with official Android 4.1.2 XXDMA2 Jelly Bean. Head over to Settings>> About tablet to verify the new software version running on the device.

How to fix bootloop issue

If the Galaxy Tab 2 gets stuck at booting animation (after step-10) or experience bootloop then place the tablet into recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up and Power buttons together. In the recovery mode, perform data wiping task by selecting Wipe data/factory reset and then select Wipe Cache Partition. When the data wiping task is completed reboot the tablet by selecting reboot system now. In recovery mode use Volume keys to navigate between options and Power button to select the desired option. Also, it should be noted that performing wiping task will erase the internal memory data of the device.

Steps to root Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5110 on Android 4.1.2 XXDMA2 Jelly Bean

Step-1: Download CF-Auto-Root package for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 to the computer

File name: CF-Auto-Root-konawifi-konawifixx-gtn5110.zip

Step-2: Extract the CF-Auto-Root zip file to get a file with .tar.md5 extension

Step-3: Download Odin3 v3.07 and then extract the Odin zip to get Odin3 v3.07.exe with some other files

Step-4: Switch off the Galaxy Tab and place the device into Download Mode. Press and hold Volume Down and Home buttons together while pressing the Power button. A warning screen will come, then press the Volume Down button to confirm to enter into Download Mode

Step-5: Run Odin3 v3.07.exe as an Administrator

Step-6: Plug in the USB cable to the Galaxy tablet to connect it with the computer while the device is in Download Mode

Step-7: In Odin, click the PDA button and select CF-Auto-Root-konawifi-konawifixx-gtn5110.tar.md5 file

Step-8: Ensure the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected in Odin

Step-9: Finally hit the Start button in Odin to begin the installation process

Step-10: When the installation is completed, the tablet will reboot automatically and a PASS message with green background will appear in the extreme left box at the very top of Odin. Once the home screen appears on the tablet, disconnect the device from the computer

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 running on Android 4.1.2 XXDMA2 Jelly Bean should be now rooted successfully. Users may now install any app that requires root permission. Additionally, to verify the root status of the device, install Root Checker app from Google Play Store.
