Overview

World number four Garbine Muguruza will be looking to reach her first French Open final as she strives to prove to the world that she is a legitimate Grand Slam contender. Muguruza has reached the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros twice in the past but has been unable to kick on. She will look at the clash on Friday as an opportunity to reach the final and go ahead and win the tournament.

Her opponent Samantha Stosur's best performances came in the years 2010 and 2011 when she reached the finals of the Wimbledon and shocked the world by winning the 2011 US Open. Since then, however, she has struggled to get through the opening week of any of the major Grand Slams, and has only made one major semi-final appearance in five years.

There is the perception that Stosur's days of contending for Grand Slams are over and that she is prolonging her career. Looking at her performances at the French Open, though, we can safely say that she is still capable of beating any opponent on her day.
