Hasan Piker was left stunned when a photo of him posing in his underwear suddenly appeared on the giant jumbotron at Donald Trump's Republican midterm convention in Dallas.

The image appeared during a narrated video shown at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday, 9 September, as Republicans gathered for the party's first midterm convention. Piker later watched the footage himself, producing one of the event's strangest viral moments.

'They Posted the Meat Pic!'

Piker was watching his Wednesday stream when he first saw a still image of himself on the convention screen.

'Oh my God,' he exclaimed.

He then pulled up the full video. When the underwear photo appeared, his disbelief quickly turned into a louder reaction.

'Nooo! They f**king posted the meat pic!' Piker said. 'They posted the meat pic at the f**king Trumpapalooza!'

Grabbing his chest, he continued: 'Oh my God. Oh my God. No. No. No. What the f**k?'

Piker eventually laughed and pointed out that the image had been blurred.

The Hasan Piker underwear photo was part of a wider political montage rather than a standalone image. The video included Democratic strategist James Carville criticising Piker, footage of Black Lives Matter protests, and clips of Trump discussing communism.

The Texas Tribune also reported that Piker and Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed were among progressive figures repeatedly targeted in videos and speeches during the convention.

Piker did not leave the moment there.

After Semafor journalist David Weigel posted a still image showing Piker on the giant screen, Piker responded on X with a joke about the Texas political battle.

'They're trying to make blexas happen!' he wrote.

The reference carried a clear political message. Piker has publicly backed Democratic Texas state representative James Talarico in his US Senate race against Republican Ken Paxton.

Paxton appeared at the Dallas convention, where Trump also pledged to campaign for him. The race is closely contested, with recent polling showing Talarico and Paxton effectively neck and neck.

Piker also shared the convention footage on Instagram, further amplifying the episode beyond the arena.

Why Piker Was in the Crosshairs

Piker has become a prominent progressive political streamer and a frequent target of Republican criticism.

His name has also featured prominently in attacks surrounding Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate nominee in Michigan. Piker campaigned alongside El-Sayed during the primary, although El-Sayed later said he had no plans to campaign with him following renewed controversy over Piker's comments.

That wider political context helps explain why Piker featured in a convention programme that repeatedly attacked Democrats and progressive voices.
