Overview

England were on the right path to win their first match of the series, when they posted a first innings total of 400 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

But that was not to be as a double century from captain Virat Kohli (235) and centuries from Murali Vijay (136) and Jayant Yadav (104) helped India post 631 in the first innings. India had a comfortable lead and put England in to bat in the second half of the fourth day.

Indian spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were instrumental in the second innings as the latter bagged two crucial wickets of captain Alastair Cook and Mooen Ali. Ashwin picked up six wickets to take his overall tally to 12 wickets in the fourth Test.

The victory in Mumbai helped India seal the series 3-0 after four matches. Kohli and his men will be looking for another win in Chennai as the current Indian side are on the verge of creating history.

India are on a 17-match unbeaten run in Tests, which has seen them level their own record achieved between September 1985 and March 1987.
