A woman was attacked by a man and had her phone stolen in Forest Gate

Met Police detectives have released CCTV footage showing a woman fight back against male attacker before he knocks her out cold. The assault happened between 4am and 4.10am on 20 February in Forest Gate, east London, and left the victim lying on the floor after being robbed of her mobile phone.

The footage shows a man cross Norwich Road and engaging in conversation with the woman before punching her. The woman then fights back against her attacker before he finally floors her with a devastating blow before fleeing the scene with her mobile phone.

The victim – a 31-year woman – heard a man on the opposite side of the road asking what she was doing. Concerned for her safety, she called the police. The suspect, holding a bottle in his hand, crossed the road and knocked the phone out of her hand.

After pushing her in the street and kicking her, he then punched her in the head and she fell to the floor. The man then left the woman lying on the pavement, bruised and without her phone.

The woman made her way to a nearby house and raised the alarm. She was later treated by London Ambulance Service for cuts to her forehead. The suspect is described as a black man with short black hair and a black beard wearing a black padded jacket, dark trousers and carrying a bottle of red wine.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the man shown on CCTV or who witnessed the incident. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 or quoting reference number 205465 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
