A tie which never looked like ending had a penalty shoot-out which almost didn't as well. Atletico Madrid prevail as Juanfran scores the decisive spot kick but it is pain for PSV who invested so much in the tie over the 210 minutes.

Well that brings an end to an interesting evening in the Champions League. Manchester City and Atletico Madrid join the line up for the quarter-finals. Tomorrow, Barcelona and Arsenal and Bayern Munich and Juventus will bid to join them. Until then, goodbye.

Full time in Madrid and it finishes Atletico 0-0 PSV. The first time ever that has happened in the Champions League. Penalties on the way at the Vicente Calderon.

The road to penalties continues to Madrid. It has been a pretty poor game and we're heading for the first ever goalless Champions League tie. Unless...

Half time in extra time. Not a single chance of note to report. We're heading for penalties.

The clock has ticked over the 100 minute mark in Madrid and we are still waiting for our first goal. These extra time periods can either be an all-out assault to avoid spot-kicks, or 30 minutes where the inevitable is merely delayed. More like the latter so far.

Extra time is being played in Madrid meanwhile. We'll have all the updates on the extra 30 minutes as they happen.

Full time: Manchester City 0-0 Dynamo Kiev

Manchester City are through to their first ever Champions League quarter-final at the expense of Dynamo Kiev. The work was done in the first leg when they claimed a 3-1 win and tonight they have cemented that with a goalless draw at home. It should not be overlooked however, this was an embarrassingly poor game and not one which will enter the annuls of European football history. Vincent Kompany went off in the first half with what looked like a calf issue, while Nicolas Otamendi was also a first half substitution after suffering a dead leg. We wait to hear the prognoses on the pair ahead of the Manchester derby.

Full time in Madrid where Atletico and PSV can't be separated over 180 minutes and we will play extra time and maybe penalties to determine who progresses. A good first half turned into a dreary second period. Much better than at the Etihad Stadium, I can assure you.

Almost Zoet doesn't connect properly with a free-kick and PSV clear desperately.

Into stoppage time in Madrid. Will there be a late winner?

Dynamo should really have had a penalty with three minutes left as Fernando takes down Yarmolenko in the box. This game is nonetheless petering out.

Torres again runs at PSV and Zoet makes a good save at the near post. The ex-Liverpool man has been impressive since his introduction.

Mark Clattenburg waves away a penalty appeal with around five minutes to go in Madrid. Felipe Luis weaves in and out and is felled by Arias, but no foul is given. we're going to extra time, aren't we?

Raheem Sterling coming on for Manchester City after another attack comes to nothing. David Silva is the man who is put out of his misery.

A shot on target at last and it comes from Yaya Toure who forced Shovkovskiy into a good low save.

Now Torres threatens again, but hits hit own player amazingly with the goal gaping. That looked like giving Zoet some problems.

Fernando Torres is on for Atletico and he is causing plenty of problems for the PSV back four. He almost weaves his way through a minute ago but Moreno is across to make a fine saving tackle.

Best chance of the night for Dynamo by a long, long way. Mangala is pick-pocketed and Yarmolenko picks it up and shoots but it is right down the throat of Hart.

Jesus Navas hits the inside of the post after Toure's pass. So close for City.

Now it is Atletico's turn to bemoan their radar. Feleipe Luiz cuts inside and forces Zoet into a fine save before the follow-up volley from Carrasco is blasted high over the bar.

Now PSV come within a hair's breath of breaking the deadlock in Madrid and it is probably the closest we have had to a goal in the whole tie. Locadia gets the ball on his right foot and curls goalwards and it take a combination of Oblak's right arm and the post to prevent the Dutch side from taking the lead.

"If you didn't know it was the Champions League, you'd think it was League One." Not only has the lack of activity led to Robbie Savage coming out with this nugget, I have restored to using it. One of those evenings.

Atletico on the front foot at the start of this second half and Augusto shoots from range and Zoet gets down to it well. Will the second half be an entertaining as the first, the closer we get to extra time?

Derlis Gonzalez on for Teodorczyk for Dynamo. The visitors get us back underway.

Players out for the start of the second halves in Manchester and Madrid. Surely we'll have some goals?

If this is truly Europe's cream, then I am sorry but we need a new definition. An ugly first half defined by injury and ill-discipline in a tie which was put firmly to bed three weeks ago. Manchester City have lost Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi for the remainder of the game and almost certainly beyond, including the Manchester derby. Chances have been non-existent otherwise. Go have a lie down.

Half time: Manchester City (3) 0-0 (1) Dynamo Kiev

Three added minutes at the Etihad Stadium. Half time in Madrid meanwhile where it remains Atletico 0-0 PSV.

A move to sum up the whole first half. A Dynamo attack fizzles out and City break. Navas is put away, beats one player and with Aguero to the right he feeds the Argentine but he over-hits the pass and it goes out of play. Ugly stuff, in the continent's premier club competition.

Chance for the hosts in Spain. It is Griezmann again who is denied by a fine save by Zoet from all of three yards. Not sure how the Atletico forward missed.

Update from Madrid where PSV are really impressing as they search for an away goal to kick the tie into life. Since Atletico missed that early chance through Griezmann, the visitors have been much the better.

Dynamo are naturally doing most of the running in the pursuit of the three goals they need to make this tie competitive, not least to go through to the last eight. Not seen much of Yarmolenko or goalscorer from the first leg Buyalskiy.

Another yellow card this time for Fernandhino for a tackle inside his own half. Really slow start to this game from a football perspective, perhaps understandable given the double injury stoppages.

Otamendi aggravates his injury after a long clearance downfield and his evening is over too as he sinks to the turf. Second choice defensive pairing Mangala and new manager Martin Demichelis at the heart of the City back four.

Antunes goes right through Jesus Navas and gets a deserved yellow card. Lots of incident, though none of it involving chances for either team.

Otamendi left the field after being treated but returned to the field without the referee's permission and has therefore been booked for the offence. Silly way to leave you walking a tightrope for the remainder of the game. The Argentina still stumbling around too.

More injury problems for City. Nicolas Otamendi now struggling with a dead leg. He is back on after receiving treatment but he is limping heavily. Horrible start for the home side.

Atletico close to going ahead in a lively start to the game. Griezmann gets the chance from close range but Zoet makes a smart save.

Plenty of reports via social media that Vincent Kompany's calf problem is the 14th such problem the Belgian defender has suffered since 2008. You fancy the Manchester derby will certainly be beyond him. The question is how much of the season will also be a write-off?

Mark Clattenburg is the man in the middle in Madrid and he awards an early corner for PSV which is much-debated by the home side after a shot was deflected over the top.

Eliaquim Mangala on for City and such is his surprise at being a fifth minute change it appears he is warming up on the pitch. He can ill-afford to make a slow start in this game with Kiev having enjoyed the better of a disrupted opening.

Not much goalmouth action but a problem for Manchester City inside five minutes. Vincent Kompany holds of Gusev but puts the ball out immediately. The Belgian grimaced his way through the challenge and it looks like his troublesome calf, which has dogged him all season, is the source of the anguish.

Uefa's Champions League anthem is booed by the Etihad Stadium crowd, naturally. Underway in Manchester.

Players out in Manchester and Madrid. Updates on the way. Fingers crossed for not extra time.

With City often struggling to sell out home Champions League matches at the best of times, and Dynamo all but out I am not convinced tonight will be a sell out in Manchester. Teams in the tunnel and on their way.

Manuel Pellegrini on BT Sport: "The best team at the moment is similar to the one that played in Dynamo. Two different competitions we're not thinking about happens in Norwich. We played well in the second round in Kiev and we are going to play again a difficult team and we need to focus on what we did in the first leg. It is most important to qualify but we try to qualify playing well and winning the game."

In Spain, Atletico Madrid take on PSV with all to play for after a goalless first leg. Atletico may not be full of goals this season but having conceded just 12 in the league this season they will be a tough proposition for Philip Cocu's side. All the updates from the Spanish capital throughout the night.

City were hopeless against Norwich City at the weekend as their title challenge fizzled out at Carrow Road. Tonight they can take a giant, yet not unexpected step into the last eight in Manuel Pellegrini's last season in charge. The Chilean is on course to end the campaign with only the League Cup to show for, but could City go all the way in this competition? We may not get the answer for that tonight but if City can make short work of Dynamo then it may re-energise the rest of their season.

Dynamo Kiev: Shovkovskiy, Antunes, Dragovic, Vida, Khacheridi, Veloso, Garmash, Gusev, Buyalskiy; Yarmolenko, Teodorczyk.

Three changes for Kiev. Antunes, Veloso and Gusev come in for Da Silva, Rybalka and Gonzalez.

Teams:

Atletico Madrid vs PSV:

Atletico: Oblak; Juanfran, Giménez, Godín, Filipe Luis; Saúl, Gabi, Augusto, Koke; Carrasco, Griezmann

PSV: Zoet; Arias, Bruma, Moreno, Isimat, Willems; Propper, Guardado, Van Ginkel; De Jong, Locadia.

Still awaiting the team from the Dynamo Kiev camp but there is no evidence of any injuries from the first leg. Andriy Yarmolenko is expected to lead their efforts to overturn the first leg deficit.

Manchester City are quick off the mark and have confirmed their team for tonight's second leg ahead of schedule. There are two changes from the draw at Norwich with Zabaleta and Toure in for Sagna and Bony. Kelechi Iheanacho misses out altogether and Raheem Sterling is on the bench.

Teams:

Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany (C), Otamendi, Clichy, Fernando, Toure, Fernandinho, Navas, Silva, Aguero.

With Chelsea having been dumped out by PSG and Arsenal facing an inevitable fate against Barcelona, Manchester City are flying the Premier League flag all on their own in the Champions League. Manuel Pellegrini's team might be out of the title race, but they stand on the brink of reaching the last eight of Europe's top tier competition for the first time having claimed a 3-1 win over Dynamo Kiev in the Ukraine three weeks ago. Tonight, City will look to complete the job against the team managed by former Tottenham striker Sergei Rebrov. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid and PSV will look to settle their tie after a goalless first leg. Team news on the way.
