Mary J Blige 'files for divorce' from husband and manager after 13 years of marriage

Singer Mary J Blige has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband Martin Isaacs. The couple have been married for 13 years and Lewis has also served as the singer's manager.

According to TMZ, the 45-year-old cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the alleged split.

Court papers state that a separation date is yet "to be determined". It has been reported that the singer has requested the judge "block Isaacs' ability to get spousal support"

The couple married in 2003. In an interview with Stella magazine in 2014, Blige opened up about the difficulties of balancing their married life together with their professional working arrangement.

"He always has my back – he's going to fight to the death for Mary J Blige," she explained. "The downside is that there's no separation – it's on all the time. When you don't feel like answering to your manager, he's still your husband. If one of you doesn't want to talk about something right now, you have to respect that. And you have to respect each other's space."

According to reports, Blige also banned Isaacs from maintaining friendships with other women. "All females for me, all guys for him. There's none of that, 'Oh, that's my female friend. Oh, that's my guy friend.' No. Not in a marriage, I've never seen that work."
