The first build of Windows 10 preview for phones released on 12 February was limited to devices such as Lumia 630, 635, 636, 638, 730 and 830.

The reason for having a few select devices from the set of phones is attributed to the system partition sizes configured by the manufacturers. This was necessary to upgrade the phones in-place, explains Microsoft's Gabriel Aul in a blog post.

Besides, in the first preview higher-end Lumia devices such as Lumia 930/Icon and Lumia 1520 were not added since Microsoft was working on a feature called "partition stitching", which will be part of the next preview and allows the company to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create space to install processes to be able to update the OS in-place.
