Superheroes, villains, aliens and zombies gathered in "Gotham City" for New York Comic Con 2016. The annual convention for fans of cosplay, comics, video games, and action films draws thousands of costumed revellers. More than 165,000 people attended last year's NY Comic Con, making it the largest comic book and pop culture gathering in the US.

One of the main events this year was the Eastern Championships of Cosplay, giving fans the opportunity to show off their costume design and make-up skills. The contest was won by Rachel Sanderson, also known as Lucky Grim. She won $1,500 (£1,200) and the chance to compete in the Global Cosplay Championships in 2017.
