Yohan Cabaye
Newcastle have rejected one bid for Cabaye.

Paris Saint Germain have joined the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye but the Ligue 1 champions are yet to make a firm bid for the French international.

Cabaye is understood to have gone on strike at St James' Park and has missed both of the Toon's opening league games against Manchester City and West Ham United and won't feature in the League Cup trip to League Two Morecambe on Wednesday.

Newcastle rejected an offer thought to be in the region of £10m from Arsenal for Cabaye prior to the season opener against City, with manager Alan Pardew subsequently criticising the timing of the bid.

Pardew says Cabaye will only be available for a 'world-class' fee this summer as the club prepare for life after the France midfielder, but PSG, who were rumoured to be among the interested parties, are yet to make a concrete bid

"Yohan Cabaye? He is a great player and I know Laurent Blanc likes him a lot," club chairman Nasser al-Khelaifi told L'Equipe. "But we didn't make any offer to Newcastle."

With Newcastle only likely to consider substantial bids for Cabaye, the interest of PSG, who have already spent close to £100m this summer, is an indication their valuation could be met.

Arsenal are expected to return with a second bid in the region of £13m for Cabaye but an offer of such size is unlikely to see Newcastle budge.

The struggles of Arsenal in the transfer window have been mirrored by Newcastle, who have made just one addition in the window in the form of Loic Remy in a loan move from Queens Park Rangers.

The club have been linked with moves for Bafetimbi Gomis and Demba Ba of late but are running out of time to add to a squad which finished 15th in the Premier League in a season which was dominated by a battle against relegation.

James Perch and Danny Simpson are the high-profile departures in the transfer window this summer but Pardew has warned the future of some of Newcastle's peripheral first-team players is on the line in the League Cup visit to Morecambe.
