Once Upon a Time season 5
Emma and Hook in Once Upon A Time season 5 winter finale ABC

Once Upon A Time season 5 has gone on a mid-season hiatus, and will return with episode 12 on 6 March 2016 at 8pm EST on ABC Network. The winter finale found Hook sacrificing himself to take away all the Darkness, and Emma starting her journey to the Underworld to bring her lover back. Besides, Rumplestilskin deceives everyone and is now the most powerful Dark One.

The eleventh episode which is also the show's 100th episode is titled, Souls Of The Departed, where Emma and her heroes will journey to the Underworld to bring back Hook.

Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis talk about Hook's fate in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

When asked if the Storybrooke heroes can bring back Hook, Horowitz coyly said, "Who said they can bring back Hook? He may die harder." Kitsis also hinted at a cruel fate for the sailor and said, "He may die there. To be honest, he's already dead. He may rot there."

The season 5's second half will bring back saviour Emma. "Emma is absolutely bada**. She is a tough women", says Horowitz. Kitsis teased she has been a bada** for all five seasons. "I've got to be honest. I feel like Emma's been pretty much bada** for five seasons. I don't know what season she wasn't bada**. She killed Cruella [Victoria Smurfit]!" the showrunner said.

Actor Greg Germann will play Hades, the devilish dictator of the Underworld in the mid-season premiere. Horowitz told Entertainment Weekly, "We're going to be meeting the Once Upon a Time version of Hades in the second half of the season. While he is both inspired by a myth and by the Disney movie version, as we like to do, we're trying to create our own Once Upon a Time spin. We can't wait for everyone to see what [Germann] does with the character."

Germann will make his debut in the mid-season premiere, where Emma and her family try to rescue Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) from the Underworld. Kitsis teased, "He [Hades] absolutely has a surprising connection to one of our cast," and Horowitz added, "Before everyone runs to Twitter to give their opinions on it, he's not related to anyone, but there is a connection."
