Celebrities get hundreds of requests to take selfies with fans each day and now it seems Liam Payne has formulated the perfect approach to meeting the demand.

The One Direction star, 21, was recently filmed moving down a line of fans and appearing to give fake smiles so he could take selfies at speed.

Payne was attending the ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) Awards, where he began taking snaps with fans on the red carpet.

Some fans criticised him for appearing fed up in between smiling shots, while others praised the star and described his speedy selfies as 'spelfies'.

Viewers have found his change of expression amusing and the clips have been viewed over 240,000 times on Vine.

Buzzfeed described the clip as Payne "perhaps losing the will to live".

The boy band has had a hectic few months, including performing at the iHeartRadio Music festival in Las Vegas along with Ed Sheeran, Lorde, Paramore, Iggy Azalea, Weezer, 50 Cent, Eric Church and Calvin Harris.

The Kiss You hitmakers won three awards at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (23 November), before jetting off to Sydney, Australia for the ARIA Awards, held on Wednesday evening.
