Perez Hilton Reportedly Claims 'Spiritual Warfare' After Hospitalisation and TikTok Crisis

An unnamed source has claimed that celebrity blogger Perez Hilton believes his August mental health crisis was a form of 'spiritual warfare' connected to his newfound Christian faith. Hilton has not publicly confirmed the account, while his family said on Sept. 14 that he had left hospital and entered a residential treatment programme focused on his mental health and recovery.

The claim follows an Aug. 4 emergency response at Hilton's Miami home after viewers contacted authorities about a TikTok livestream. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to reports that Hilton was livestreaming acts of self-harm. He was later taken to hospital for medical attention.

The religious explanation was reported by the Daily Mail and attributed to an unnamed source. According to that account, 'Hilton is convinced that he was under spiritual attack. This is spiritual warfare.'

The source also claimed Hilton believed 'the devil is not happy that he became a Christian.' Because those statements were not made publicly by Hilton and have not been confirmed by his family, they should be treated as second-hand assertions about his beliefs rather than an established explanation for the Aug. 4 crisis.

Hilton's family has continued to issue updates through his website. In its Sept. 14 statement, the family said he was lucid, communicating clearly and receiving residential treatment after weeks in hospital for physical injuries. The statement also disputed several separate reports about his condition, including claims that he had lost years of his memory or was confused about where he was.

The family did not address the 'spiritual warfare' account.

According to a Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office incident report cited by CBS Miami, Hilton's sister told deputies she found him injured inside the home and left with the children. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue treated Hilton at the scene for multiple lacerations and what the report described as an overdose before he was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. The report did not identify a substance.

The incident report also said Hilton later came outside and banged on the driver's-side window of the vehicle before his sister drove away as deputies arrived. His family has asked the public and media to respect the privacy of Hilton's children.

Earlier Health Crisis Preceded Hilton's Religious Awakening

Hilton, 48, had experienced serious health problems months before the August crisis. In March, he said he spent 21 days in hospital after developing an ulcer, a perforation and severe sepsis. He said the illness followed a period in which he had been taking medication while suffering from flu symptoms.

After leaving hospital, Hilton publicly described a religious awakening, saying 'God presented himself' to him. He said he had been raised Catholic but had not previously considered himself a believer.

Hilton later released a nine-minute video addressing his past conduct as a celebrity blogger. 'I made a lot of mistakes in my past,' he said, adding that he carried 'deep shame and regret' over actions that had hurt others.

In early April, Hilton returned to hospital after doctors discovered what he described as a 'massive' blood clot in his right leg. He said he underwent emergency surgery and later reported that he was able to walk again with the help of a walker.

Perez Hilton's Family Says Recovery Remains the Priority

Hilton rose to prominence through PerezHilton.com, the celebrity gossip website he launched more than two decades ago. His aggressive coverage of public figures drew criticism over the years, and Hilton has since acknowledged that some of his past behaviour caused harm.

In his apology video, he said his earlier priorities had centred on attention, online traffic and money, and said he had apologised both publicly and privately to people he believed he had hurt.

For now, Hilton's family says his recovery remains the priority. Its Sept. 14 update said he was expected to remain in residential treatment for several more weeks, or potentially longer, depending on the advice of his treatment team. The family said he did not have access to his phone or laptop and was limiting contact while focusing on treatment.

The family also said his three children were safe and being cared for by their grandmother while he continued his recovery.
