His death marked the loss of one of the defining voices of the Transformers franchise, a role he first took on in the 1984 animated series.

Cullen continued voicing Optimus Prime across television, films, and video games for more than four decades, including the 2023 film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

The connection remains a fan observation rather than an official link between Cullen's death and the film's timestamp.

In 2023, Cullen received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Children's and Family Emmy Awards, recognising his long career in animation, television and film.

His final original performance as Optimus Prime will appear in Optimus Prime: Awakening, a 12-minute animated short that will screen after select 40th-anniversary screenings of The Transformers: The Movie beginning 17 September.
