Sony has announced its free PlayStation Plus games for Europe in April.

On PlayStation 3 PS Plus subscribers will be able to download Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time from Wednesday 2 April.

Meanwhile PlayStation 4 owners will be able to download 2D side-scrolling action game Mercenary Kings free of charge.

PS Vita owners will be able to download MotoGP 13 and Hotline Miami.

This month's game on PlayStation 4 continues the trend of smaller-scale downloadable games being made available through the service. As the new console's catalogue grows however, gamers can expect more Triple A releases to be offered up.

For many Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 represented a return to form for the football series, which for years has been lagging behind rival FIFA in both the cirtical and commercial stakes. It's still second place sales-wise but in terms of acclaim it's much, much closer.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time marked the return of the heist-pulling raccoon to Sony's consoles after an eight year weight. It was a huge success, and won similar acclaim to Sucker Punch's original trilogy of platformers.

On PS Vita the highlight is Hotline Miami, a pixellated but still super-violent top-down action game from Dennaton Games. After a critically acclaimed PC release the game soon found a home on Sony consoles.

Meanwhile US gamers will be able to enjoy Batman: Arkham City and Stealth Inc, as well as Mercenary Kings on PS4.
