GDP growth in the first quarter of 2010 has been revised upwards thanks to an increase in production and service industry output, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The initial estimate by the ONS suggested that first quarter growth was 0.2 per cent, however the figure has now been revised to growth of 0.3 per cent.

The ONS said that the volume of output in production industries increased 1.2 per cent, within which manufacturing increased 1.2 per cent.

In addition the output of service industries was reported as increasing 0.2 per cent in the first quarter.

However construction output is believed to have fallen by 0.5 per cent.
