A rampant Arsenal side returned to form last night as they thrashed Reading 5-2 at the Madejski stadium. In a fixture that is starting to guarantee goals, the last time these two sides met was a 12 goal thriller in the Capital One Cup, where Arsenal prevailed 7-5.

This match was nowhere near as close, as a Lukas Podolski goal and a Santi Cazorla hat trick saw the Gunners 4-0 up within the hour. Adam Le Fondre and Jimmy Kebe scored twice for Reading in the space of five minutes, but there was to be no comeback as Theo Walcott, playing in his favoured forward position, slotted in his side's fifth and final goal.

The result continues Arsenal remarkable 100 per cent record against Reading in all competitive matches, and goes some way towards healing the wounds of the Gunners humiliating League Cup exit last week to Bradford on penalties.

The result sees Arsenal climb up to 5th in the Premier League table, just two points behind London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea. Reading remain rooted to the foot of the table, and will most likely be spending Christmas at the bottom as they travel to reigning champions Manchester City this weekend.
