Is Cara the next big pop star? Reuters

She has already conquered the world of fashion and now supermodel Cara Delevingne is preparing to compete with her pal Rihanna by launching a music career.

According to 80's pop star Sinitta, she has taken the 21-year-old beauty under her wing and hopes to mould her into music's next big thing.

"It's a top-secret project and it's true that I'm helping her as a mentor," Sinitta told the Evening Standard.

Delevingne, who has fronted campaigns for designers including Burberry and DKNY, sent the rumour mill into overdrive earlier this year when she was pictured leaving the London office of Simon Cowell's label Syco.

Although the model and actress has yet to confirm her plans, Sinitta, who was mentored by Cowell at the beginning of her own music career, believes she is the best person to educate her young prodigy about the music industry.

"It's about finding people who have natural passion," she explained, "and doing what Simon did with me: help them focus their creativity and ideas in a positive direction and give them an outlet."

News of her new venture comes after Delevingne was named the new face of high-street favourite Topshop.

The former Victoria Secret's model will star in the brand's global autumn/winter 2014 campaign later this year.
