Paula Patton has filed for divorce seven months after splitting from her husband Robin Thicke.

According to TMZ, the 38-year-old Hollywood actress cited "irreconcilable differences" in a petition filed in Los Angeles.

She has also asked for joint legal and physical custody of their four-year-old son Julian.

You may recall that the Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol star called time on their eight-year marriage back in February after that raunchy performance with Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards -- and that picture of Thicke grabbing a socialite's bottom in a club.

"We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," the couple said in a joint statement.

For months, Thicke attempted to win back his high school sweetheart and even made the ultimate romantic gesture by naming his new album Paula.

But his emotional campaign backfired and the album only shifted an embarrassing 530 copies in the UK in its first week of release. And although he managed to sell 25,000 copies across the Atlantic, it was nothing compared to his Blurred Lines success.

Thicke recently admitted that becoming a global star had had a detrimental effect on his marriage.

Speaking to Hot 97's Ebro, he admitted that he became "too selfish, too greedy and full of himself" after his Blurred Lines climbed charts worldwide.
