Is Jack Lowden the New James Bond? Saoirse Ronan Reacts to Husband's Rumoured 007 Casting
The Oscar-nominated actor says the couple are focused on everyday life while speculation continues over who will replace Daniel Craig as 007

Saoirse Ronan has addressed the growing speculation that her husband, Jack Lowden, could be the next James Bond, but the Oscar-nominated actor isn't giving anything away.
Lowden has become one of the names most frequently linked with the coveted 007 role following Daniel Craig's departure from the franchise. However, no casting announcement has been made, and Ronan has suggested that the rumours are not exactly dominating their household.
Saoirse Ronan Reacts To Jack Lowden's Rumoured 007 Casting
In a new interview, Ronan was asked about the speculation surrounding her husband, who stars alongside Gary Oldman in 'Slow Horses'.
'Well, Gary Oldman thinks he's James Bond,' Ronan said, before describing the speculation as 'its own thing'. The couple, she explained, are more concerned with everyday life than the increasingly intense Bond rumours.
'We're kind of getting on with our life, to be honest,' Ronan said, adding that they have 'plenty of other things to be dealing with'. She joked that walking the dog and making dinner were currently more pressing matters. Ronan also revealed that Lowden is currently busy filming 'Slow Horses', where he plays MI5 agent River Cartwright.
Gary Oldman Is Rooting for Jack Lowden
Much of the recent Bond speculation surrounding Lowden began with his 'Slow Horses' co-star Gary Oldman, who publicly backed him for the role. Oldman caused a stir in September when he suggested that the next Bond had already been chosen and said he hoped it was Lowden. He later clarified that he did not actually know who had been selected and that he was simply rooting for his co-star.
Oldman said there were six actors on the shortlist but insisted he did not have inside information about the final decision. He subsequently said that the 'Slow Horses' cast were also 'rooting for' Lowden.
Another supporter has emerged in Richard Osman, who recently said that Lowden was the name he had heard in connection with the role. Osman stressed that he could not guarantee the information was correct, but said he thought Lowden 'would be amazing'.
Not everyone has been convinced, however. Former 'Slow Horses' co-star Nick Mohammed said he suspected the rumours were not true, while Bond author Charlie Higson questioned whether Lowden would be convincing enough in the action-heavy role.
Saoirse Ronan Has Her Own Bond Ambitions
Interestingly, Ronan has previously expressed an interest in joining the Bond franchise herself, although she wants to play a villain rather than 007. 'I want to go dark,' she said, adding she was 'dead serious' about playing a young female Bond villain.
She explained that she was interested in portraying a character capable of directing pent-up anger towards others, particularly because of the dramatic potential of a female antagonist. Ronan has since joked that she may have 'eaten my words' after making those comments, given that her husband is now being linked to the role of Bond.
Lowden Has Long Had Support From Those Around Him
The Bond speculation is the latest example of people in Lowden's professional circle backing his abilities. Ronan has previously spoken warmly about working with him, including their collaboration as producers on 'The Outrun'. She has described Lowden as her 'voice of reason' and has said the pair understand the demands placed on actors because they have both spent their lives working in the industry.
Lowden has also received encouragement from fellow Scottish actors. 'Karen Pirie' star Lauren Lyle previously revealed that Lowden supported her early in her career, speaking positively about her work and asking her to become involved with one of his projects.
The actor's career has steadily grown through roles in 'Dunkirk', 'Mary Queen of Scots', 'Benediction' and 'Slow Horses', while his work on 'The Outrun' also demonstrated his ambitions as a producer.
Will Jack Lowden Really Be the Next Bond?
For now, there is no official confirmation that Lowden has been cast as 007. Amazon MGM's next Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay. Other actors have also been linked to the role, and the studio has yet to announce its choice.
Ronan, meanwhile, appears content to let the speculation play out without getting involved. For Lowden, the Bond rumours may be getting louder, but his wife seems to be taking the simplest approach: let the studio announce while they get on with everyday life.
