Popstar Selena Gomez is achieving one milestone after another on social media despite being on a break from the limelight. Gomez has become the first person to have a record-breaking 100 million followers on Instagram. Her wide base of followers remains unaffected although it has been six weeks since the songstress posted any of her candid photos on the popular picture-sharing site.
And, with this new Instagram record, Gomez beats fellow formidable figures such as Taylor Swift (91.4 million followers), Beyonce (85.3 million), Ariana Grande (85 million) and Kim Kardashian West (83.6 million).
Interestingly, the news comes amid Gomez's hiatus from the social media sites and her career. Cancelling her Revival music tour mid-way, the Disney alum said in a statement that she needed to focus on her "health and happiness" as she continues to struggle from anxiety, panic attacks and depression.
"I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off," the Kill Em With Kindness singer had said.
However, this new record isn't Gomez's first noteworthy accomplishment on the social media. Earlier the Instagram queen had made headlines for her online popularity as one of her pictures became the most-liked photo of all time on the picture-sharing site. Following the feat, the 24-year-old singer even signed a major deal with Instagram to help the social media giant boost their level of engagement.
The credit for the latest record goes to Gomez's huge fan-base. Better known as Selenators, they started a petition using #SelenaBreakTheInternet to help the songstress remain the reigning queen of Instagram.
