Sienna Miller Jokes Daughter, 14, 'Mogged' Her on Red Carpet but Admits She's 'Slightly Concerned'

Sienna Miller has admitted she was 'slightly concerned' after her 14-year-old daughter, Marlowe Sturridge, unexpectedly became the focus of their viral red-carpet moment, joking that the teenager 'totally mogged' her in front of the cameras.

The actress, 44, revealed that Marlowe's brief appearance at the London premiere of War on September 16 was never meant to be a public mother-and-daughter outing. The teenager had attended the event with a friend and only joined Miller for around five seconds to give her a hug, but the moment quickly attracted widespread attention online.

'She Totally Mogged Me' on the Red Carpet

Speaking on SiriusXM's The Julia Cunningham Show, Miller explained that Marlowe had not actually walked the red carpet with her.

'Marlowe didn't actually walk the red carpet with me. She came with her friend. My mom was also there,' Miller said, explaining that her daughter simply came over towards the end of the event. 'And then there it was five seconds at the end where she, like, came to give me a hug and totally mogged me.'

Miller's use of 'mogged', internet slang for someone dramatically outshining another person, reflected the reaction to the photographs, which showed the teenager standing alongside her mother as photographers snapped away.

Miller had arrived in a black feathered corset gown, while Marlowe opted for a more relaxed outfit featuring a yellow graphic T-shirt, black silk midi skirt, ballet flats and a Chloé Paddington bag.

'I Didn't Expect' the Reaction to My Daughter

While Miller clearly found the situation amusing, she admitted that she had some regrets about allowing the moment to happen. 'I think I somewhat regret it because I didn't expect, and I don't think she expected, that that would have the response that it got,' she said.

The actress joked that she might send Marlowe 'away to a nunnery' for the next four years until she can emerge as an adult.

Miller then explained that she was concerned about exposing a teenager to a high level of public scrutiny. She said she felt the attention was not necessarily good for her daughter at this stage of her life, regardless of whether the reaction was positive or negative.

'She's Still My Little Girl'

Miller was keen to stress that Marlowe should not simply be defined by the attention surrounding her appearance. 'She is extraordinarily beautiful, but that's kind of the least interesting thing about Marlowe,' the actress said, describing her daughter as 'so clever' and 'so funny'.

Miller also called Marlowe her 'little girl' and 'little buddy', revealing the close bond they share. She suggested that the viral moment could mean there will be no more red-carpet appearances together for the foreseeable future.

'I don't know that we're going to be doing more red carpets,' she said, pointing out again that her daughter had only 'popped on at the end' for those five seconds.

Teenager With Strong Fashion Opinions

The attention may have surprised Miller, but Marlowe is not unfamiliar with her mother's world. The teenager, whom Miller shares with actor Tom Sturridge, has previously accompanied her mother to high-profile events, including the Cannes Film Festival.

She has also developed a reputation within the family for having a strong interest in fashion and an unfiltered opinion about what her mother wears.

Miller previously joked that Marlowe is like a 'young Anna Wintour' because of her fashion opinions. The teenager has even raided both her mother's wardrobe and the wardrobe of Alexa Chung, Sturridge's partner.

Miller's latest comments suggest she is determined not to let one viral photograph dictate her daughter's relationship with fame.

'You don't want to write your kids' histories or futures for them,' she said, acknowledging the balance of allowing children to experience their parents' glamorous world while protecting them from having their own identities shaped by it.

For now, Marlowe's five-second hug may remain a rare glimpse of the teenager in the spotlight, and one that, much to her mother's amusement and concern, saw her 'mog' one of Hollywood's most recognisable stars.
