Soulja Boy has raised the possibility of a 2028 presidential run, outlining four political priorities without formally declaring his candidacy souljaboy/Instagram

Soulja Boy has urged his followers on X to vote for him in the 2028 US presidential election, despite not formally declaring his candidacy or setting out any concrete policies.

The 36-year-old rapper posted the appeal on Saturday, 10 October, after earlier teasing a possible White House bid on Instagram.

The musician, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, described his potential move into politics as 'a new chapter' and 'a bigger vision.' His earlier Instagram statement identified four priorities, ranging from economic opportunity to artificial intelligence, without proposing specific policies.

The call for votes was more direct than his initial suggestion that he was merely exploring public service. It also raises a question his messages have yet to answer: is there a campaign behind the slogans?

From Instagram Slogan to 2028 Vote Plea

'Vote for Soulja Boy 2028,' the rapper wrote on X on 10 October. The message was reproduced in an embedded post by AllHipHop, following the Instagram statement that first drew attention to his political ambitions.

In that Instagram post, Way posed in front of an American flag. Its caption began 'SOULJA BOY 2028' and described his ambitions as 'a commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation.'

He then set out the subjects he wanted to address. 'My focus is on four things: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI,' he wrote.

Way connected those interests to his experience outside politics. 'From music to business to technology, I've always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what's possible,' he said. He added that he was 'exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service.'

The rapper went further in a comment on XXL's Instagram coverage, according to the magazine. 'Y'ALL READY FOR PRESIDENT DRACO?!' he asked, invoking one of his stage nicknames.

Neither the vote appeal nor the Instagram comments establish a formal campaign. Way has not named a party, announced a campaign organisation or explained whether he would seek a nomination or run independently.

AI Concerns Highlight His Tech Focus

Artificial intelligence is one subject Way had addressed publicly before raising the possibility of entering politics. In October 2025, he criticised the realism of AI-generated videos in an Instagram Story, according to a contemporaneous report by Complex.

'What type of world are we living in for real,' he wrote, adding that videos were 'looking realer and realer by the day.' The report did not establish which particular videos had prompted his reaction.

That concern provides context for his interest in technology, but it is not a policy proposal. He has not outlined a position on AI regulation, education or public investment.

The same applies to his three other priorities. His statement offered no proposals on criminal justice reform or education, and no explanation of how he would seek to expand economic opportunity.

Online Reaction: Jokes, Doubts and Questions

The announcement has produced a mixed response online. In a Reddit thread about the rapper's statement, one commenter described it as 'a bunch of nothing sprinkled with buzz word salad.' Another joked that the standard of political candidates was so low he might perform better.

Those remarks capture two reactions in one small discussion, not a measure of broader voter opinion. The posts nevertheless show how Way's statements have appeared as both a political possibility and an internet talking point.

Soulja Boy has teased a possible 2028 US presidential run, urging followers to vote for him while outlining four political priorities without formally declaring his candidacy.

There is precedent for a rapper entering a presidential race. Kanye West, also known as Ye, registered a presidential candidacy in 2020, with a campaign committee called Kanye 2020, according to Federal Election Commission records.

For now, Way's messages have moved from an exploratory Instagram caption to an explicit request for votes. What remains absent is any explanation of how he would turn those messages into a campaign or translate his priorities into policy.

The next indication of his intentions could be a formal announcement, concrete proposals or an organised campaign structure. Until then, 'Soulja Boy 2028' remains a political message rather than a confirmed presidential bid.
