Despite two heavy round robin losses, Cilic remains in contention for an unlikely place in the semi-final but knows he needs a favour from Novak Djokovic to stand any chance.

Victory for the seven-time grand slam champion in the afternoon session means a two-set win for Cilic could be enough to see him through on games percentage.

Wawrinka meanwhile will be keen to bounce back from being thrashed by Djokovic in his last match and needs to match any Berdych win over the Serbian to reach a second straight semi-final at the O2 Arena.

The Swiss progressed to the last four last year on his debut at the Tour Finals and with three hard-court wins over US Open champion Cilic in five meetings he is the big favourite in the final round robin match of the tournament.

Both players suffered an uncertain end to the season, with Wawrinka's form taking a dip while Cilic skipped a number of tournaments to prepare for London but face one final chance to illuminate the back-end of their season.

Stanislas Wawrinka: "It's so strange because this year everybody before the tournament was expecting some big matches because was more surprise during all the year with me winning Grand Slam, Cilic also, Raonic, Nishikori being there. So everybody was expecting some big match."

Marin Cilic: "It seems that the things that I'm doing that are all basically going in a wrong direction. Especially with these guys at this kind of level, even small mistakes, or if you're not at your best performances, the outcome is not going to be going in your favor."
