The investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance has taken a sharp turn as online communities begin to piece together their own theories. Many are now questioning if the individual captured on camera might actually be someone within her inner circle. This wave of speculation follows the discovery of eerie details on social media that suggest a personal link to the case.

Once the FBI confirmed on Tuesday that they had found doorbell recordings of a gunman messing with the hardware at Nancy Guthrie's residence, the internet became certain that Tommaso Cioni—the husband of Annie Guthrie—is the man responsible.

Breakthrough in Tucson: Authorities Detain Individual for Questioning

An unidentified member of the force spoke to ABC News, who shared the update shortly after 7 p.m. Arizona time. Similar details came from Fox News Digital via two private leads, stating that a suspect has been 'detained for questioning.' Reports from ABC and a law enforcement insider speaking with CNN confirmed that the detention took place just south of Tucson.

Police shared camera footage and photos on Tuesday from the search for Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy. The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI uploaded the media to various social platforms, which depicts a masked figure carrying a rucksack on the front terrace of the Tucson residence.

The FBI's New Evidence: Masked Figure Caught on Tape

Kash Patel, the head of the FBI, shared footage of the suspect near the residence as well. Insiders within the force noted that Patel visited the local search headquarters in Arizona on Monday.

A video nearly half a minute long shows the suspect walking up to the door and putting a gloved hand over the camera before retreating. A shorter video features the figure staring at the device while biting down on a flashlight, then obscuring the sensor with some shrubbery. Sources told CBS News that the individual appears to be holding 'prairie brush' against the lens.

A Week of Uncertainty: Family Pleads for Safe Return

This development is the first major breakthrough in the growing effort to find Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of the 'Today' anchor. Detectives are still working to confirm the identity of the figure in the video and urge anyone with information to step forward. More than a week has passed since she was likely kidnapped from her home in Arizona.

A heartfelt video plea from her family has helped the case gain widespread national coverage. Despite reports of ransom messages delivered to the press featuring a pair of deadlines, there is no confirmation of direct talk with those responsible, nor any word on Nancy Guthrie's current well-being.

Netizens React: Theories Point to 'Striking' Resemblance

X user Betty (@AmazonWoman22) claimed, 'Nancy Guthrie suspect image released. They need to take the son-in-law and the daughter in for questioning! Do you see a mustache in addition to those eyebrows that go to the center of the bridge of his nose? I could be wrong but it looks just like him.'

Global Affairs Monitor noted, 'Annie Guthrie's husband with mustach and the suspect also with mustach. Besides we haven't heard of Annie Guthrie's husband since Nancy disappeared.'

Alec Lace, who also uses X, posted: 'Newly released images of the suspect in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie appear to show that he has a mustache. Other angles looks like a beard as well. Many are speculating this could be Savannah Guthrie's brother in law.'

Along those lines, Billy Earley pointed out that 'THE EYEBROWS MATCH 100%. I took these pictures down memory lane and I was really shocked after finding Annies's Husband Tommaso was the last person to see Nancy Gutherie alive. Look, the "Left" eyebrow is an "Exact" match as the killer! No Joking...'

No Official Suspects as National Outrage Grows

Even with these claims, a concrete link between Cioni and the recorded images has not been established. Police are still working to name the person seen in the latest clips. In the meantime, following the FBI's update, Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram to post pictures of the alleged abductor.

She wrote, 'We believe she is still alive. Bring her home,' and provided contact numbers for the FBI and the county sheriff. The White House said that US President Donald Trump viewed the new surveillance footage and was reportedly in 'pure disgust.'
