Terminator 5
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in Terminator: Genisys Paramount Pictures

Terminator 5 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger's will feature a lot of time travel and will completely reboot Sarah Connor's history.

But the last trailer released by Paramount Pictures, shows that John Connor, the "saviour of the human race", would play the bad guy in Genisys.

Now, a new report suggests that John Connor might not be the ultimate villain. Which brings us to the question: Who will be the "villain" in Terminator 5?

Schwarzenegger had earlier teased about an ultimate villain and said, "We'll be having some great surprises about who is the ultimate villain that I have to fight, how I was re-programed, and the time travel. You can't travel through time when you have metal exposed, and my arm gets deteriorated... the flesh, because of some acid... so then my metal arm is exposed, therefore I cannot use the time machine."

Meanwhile, Movie pilot reported that many fans have expressed disbelief and nerd-rage over the second Terminator Genisys trailer, which shows Connor as the villain, referring to it as a "spoiler".

Also, one needs to think why would a trailer reveal such a massive spoiler, and this leads us to the question, maybe John Connor is not the real saviour.

"But maybe, the studio behind this movie knows a bit more about what's in store in Terminator 5 than we do? Perhaps there's more than meets the eye with this John Connor business and this is just another robot in disguise?" the report read.

Matt Smith is the ultimate villain

Doctor Who actor Matt Smith's role is kept a secret in the movie. Is he the villain in Arnold Schwarzenegger's sequel?

Movie Pilot reported: "We know he [Matt Smith] is in the movie and we know that so far the folks behind Terminator 5 have been keeping his character shrouded in secrecy - so much so that a previous leak from a top-secret screening has all but been scrubbed clean from the internet by Paramount."

"Just because a terminator is sent back in time that looks like John Connor, doesn't mean it is John Connor," the report added.

"Skynet could very well have corrupted John in the future, or found out a way to tap into his mind or use his DNA, but that may only raise the stakes of the movie - giving Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese more pressure to fix things and maybe even try to save the future John by traveling forward in time."

Jason Clarke, who will play John Connor in Terminator Genisys, has provided further insight about his character, and confirmed that he will defy expectations.

Clarke told Entertainment Weekly: "He's full of possibilities now that he's not fully machine, not fully human. He's something else. He's still evolving. There are still surprises to what exactly John is ultimately. Is he controllable or not? He's the last throw of the dice by Skynet and he is something that is a lot more than we've ever seen by nobody really knows just where it can go."

Now, it seems like there is a possibilities that Clarke may indeed not be the bad guy in the movie after all, and that the trailer is just to tease fans.

The film is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on 1 July, 2015
