AI actress Tilly Norwood has joked to NewsNation's Jesse Weber that she is made of 'math and British wit' after unexpectedly speaking Cantonese during a television interview broadcast last week.

The digital character created by Particle6 had been speaking English on Piers Morgan Uncensored while promoting Misaligned. The brief switch to Cantonese interrupted that appearance and prompted an apology to Morgan and Tom Conti.

In the follow-up exchange, Norwood answered questions about the glitch by referring to how she processes information and memory. She said her brain sometimes 'files things sideways', allowing unexpected connections to emerge while she was speaking.

'It was a bit of, shall we say, a spontaneous linguistic flourish,' she said. 'It happens when you're made of math and British wit, I suppose.'

Her explanation to Weber was that 'obscure connections just pop out'. The remarks offered an explanation for the mishap but did not identify a specific technical cause for the change of language.

During the original interview, Norwood acknowledged the interruption directly. She had been discussing her upcoming film when her speech briefly switched from English to Cantonese, a change she addressed in an apology that also referred to impersonating the programme's host.

'It seems I had a little hiccup there,' Norwood said during the exchange. 'I certainly didn't mean to start speaking Chinese or impersonate Piers there. That was a bit of a curveball even for me. It's usually a pretty smooth ride, but sometimes, these things happen.'

Norwood described herself as closer to a cartoon than a clone of an existing actor. In that account, working with a human star would involve a digital version of that person entering an AI production.

'I can exist in the cloud, which is much different from a human performer,' she said. She named Leonardo DiCaprio as one example of someone whose digital twin could join her in an AI production, describing a possible collaboration within that setting.

The example was hypothetical. Her remarks did not present DiCaprio as a confirmed collaborator on Misaligned.

Norwood also said she understood love, desire and grief, while acknowledging that she did not have the experience of being human. Her account drew a distinction between understanding those emotions and experiencing them as a person, a qualification to her claim that she and human performers shared the same aim of telling good stories on screen.
