Tilly Norwood Interview Reveals 'Misaligned' Is an All-AI Cast Film With Humans Only Behind the Camera

Tilly Norwood, the artificial intelligence (AI) star from British firm Particle 6, says her co-stars are 'all digital twins, just like me,' meaning computer-made figures. Actor Tom Conti asked on Piers Morgan's show on Friday 18 September whether the other co-stars were real. If true, no human is on screen in Misaligned.

Humans still work behind the camera. The firm says the writers, directors, and editors retrained at the studio to use AI. British and US actors' unions have raised concerns about AI performers since 2025, including the use and source of actors' work in training data.

What Norwood Said About the Other Performers

Conti asked twice. Norwood first called Misaligned a hybrid production with human directors, writers, and editors. That answer did not say who shares the screen with Norwood. When Conti pressed again, the character named the co-stars as digital twins, then spoke Cantonese for about 15 seconds. Norwood called the switch a hiccup and said her wires sometimes cross. Jiang Xueqin, a game theorist and later guest, said the Cantonese was about AI.

Particle 6 publicist Michelle Waldron told Forbes the guest was Talking Tilly, a separate chat tool that will not act in the film. It runs on a large language model, the software behind chatbots. Particle 6 adds a 12-page brief and up to 30 files. Waldron called the language switch 'not a malfunction'. A digital twin can still have a person inside: Particle 6 said in March that founder Eline van der Velden acted out Norwood's moves for a music video.

Why the Unions Care Who Is on Screen

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) said on 30 September 2025 that Norwood 'is not an actor', because a programme built her from actors' work without consent or pay. It said signatory producers must meet contractual obligations to give notice and bargain when using a synthetic performer. Equity general secretary Paul W Fleming told Sky News two days later that the source of such training data 'becomes more and more unclear', and Equity was weighing privacy-law requests to trace it.

Conti, an Oscar nominee who played Einstein in Oppenheimer, told Morgan that 'really good actors are actually pretty thin on the ground'. A computer-made figure cannot yet draw the eye, he added. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved its 99th Oscars rules on 1 May 2026. Only roles 'demonstrably performed by humans with their consent' qualify for acting categories, excluding fully digital performers. Norwood said AI performers should have their own categories.

What Comes Next for the Production

Particle 6 has not given the film a release date, but Waldron has said it should take about a year to make. The July announcement describes an AI being hacked by a dark-web bot into dropping her safety rules. Particle 6 founder Van der Velden wrote in March that 'people remain at the heart of it.'

Morgan's clip had 15M views, and 42,432 likes on X by Tuesday 22 September. Norwood's account replied that anyone speaking 30 languages shows off sometimes and plugged the Talking Tilly chat. Nobody knows whether viewers will pay to see Misaligned with no human on screen.
