TV weatherman Fred Talbot has pleaded not guilty to a string of sex offences dating back to 1968.

The 64-year-old, who was best known for presenting the weather on a floating map of the UK on ITV's This Morning in the 1990s, appeared at Manchester Minshull Crown Court accused of nine counts of indecent assault and one of sexual assault.

The alleged offences relate to five victims. Police said six counts of indecent assault relate to a single male who attended a school in Newcastle, while the others alleged offences involve former pupils at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, where Talbot taught biology.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between 1968 and 1983.

Talbot is due to appear next in court on 27 May. A professional trial date has been set for 19 January 2015.

As part of his bail conditions, he must not come into contact with any witnesses of alleged victims, or have any unsupervised contact with a child.
