Elon Musk Warns 'Don't Mess With X' After Platform Lawsuit Targeted Users Over Alleged Engagement Fraud

Elon Musk warned users not to 'mess with X' after the social media platform filed a lawsuit against people it accused of abusing its Creator Revenue Sharing programme through coordinated fake engagement.

The case names UK individuals Vivek Kumar Sen and Zamyang Sherpa among those allegedly involved.

X accused several accounts of generating artificial activity to secure creator payouts. Musk responded on the platform with the brief warning, 'Don't mess with 𝕏,' as details of the lawsuit emerged.

Elon Musk Warning Follows X Engagement Lawsuit

According to the lawsuit, nine accounts were allegedly linked to the activity, including @Vivek4real_, @Bitcoin_Teddy, @saylordocs, @TrendingBitcoin, @Kalshibacktest and @PolyBackTest.

X accused the accounts of creating activity that mimicked genuine engagement in order to receive payments through its revenue-sharing system.

The filing alleges that the accounts received at least £207,384, around $277,000, through Creator Revenue Sharing. X allegedly suspended the accounts linked to the case on 18 August 2026.

The company is also seeking at least another £75,000, around $100,200, which it says relates to the cost of investigating the alleged conduct and taking measures intended to prevent further wrongdoing.

The allegations also involve posts containing unverified claims about major financial companies, including Goldman Sachs and Citibank. Reports said the material was posted to attract attention and generate engagement, although the claims concerning the companies were not verified.

Musk's response attracted considerable attention on X, where users discussed both the lawsuit and the platform's action against the accounts. Some users praised the decision to pursue those accused of manipulating the payment system.

Elon Musk Response Comes as X Changes Creator Payments

The legal action comes shortly after X replaced Creator Revenue Sharing with its Original Content Rewards programme. Creator Revenue Sharing launched around July 2023 and was designed to pay creators based on the engagement their posts generated.

New enrolments had already stopped the previous month. Existing participants were told they would continue receiving payouts until 7 September 2026, before being required to enrol in the replacement programme from 8 September.

Under the new system, X has placed greater emphasis on original material. In an announcement introducing the programme, the company said, 'Creating original content takes time, effort, expertise, and creativity. The Original Content Rewards Program is designed to reward creators who bring those things to X.'

X added, 'We want to recognise creators who break news, share expertise, tell stories, create entertainment, and contribute meaningful perspectives to the conversation. Our goal is simple: reward creators who bring something new to X.'

Eligibility requirements listed by X include being at least 18, maintaining an account without a history of violations of its terms of service or monetisation standards, having at least 500 verified followers and operating either a personal or business profile. Other requirements also apply.

The company specifically emphasised originality and said copied content would not qualify for rewards under the replacement programme.

Elon Musk Warning Keeps X Lawsuit in Focus

The lawsuit puts X's former engagement-based payment system under scrutiny as the platform shifts toward rewarding original material.

At the centre of the case is X's allegation that the named individuals and associated accounts manipulated engagement to obtain creator payments. Those claims remain allegations and have not been established by the information provided.

X has suspended the accounts identified in connection with the case and is seeking to recover money it alleges was improperly obtained, alongside additional investigation-related costs.
