'Reacher' star Alan Ritchson has confirmed he and his wife Catherine are ending their marriage after 20 years, formally announcing their separation in a joint Instagram statement on Saturday, 12 September.

The couple, who first met as teenagers in a Florida ballet class, said they had chosen to 'continue alongside one another in a different way' while remaining focused on raising their three sons together.

The announcement came several months after it was reported that Alan had filed for divorce last year. Although the Ritchsons were said to have reconciled earlier in 2026, they have now publicly confirmed their decision to end their marriage.

Who Is Catherine Ritchson?

Catherine Ritchson is an American writer and producer who has typically kept a lower public profile than her husband. She and Alan first met as teenagers in Florida while attending the same ballet class.

Alan was reportedly 17, and Catherine was 16 at the time.

Their relationship did not immediately lead to marriage, as the pair broke up after dating as teenagers before reconnecting several years later.

Catherine was studying at the University of Florida when the couple reunited.

Alan was in Miami for a modelling shoot at the time, and their relationship eventually led to the couple tying the knot in May 2006, marking the beginning of a two-decade marriage.

Catherine has also worked behind the scenes in the entertainment industry. Her publicly listed credits include writing work on 'Employee 665' and an executive producer credit on the 2017 short film 'Tree House Time Machine'. Earlier in her career, she was also reported to have worked as a financial analyst for talent agency International Creative Management.

Alan and Catherine Ritchson Have Three Sons

The former couple share three sons: Calem, Edan and Amory, aged 13, 12 and 10 respectively. The family has previously lived a relatively unconventional lifestyle because of Alan's acting career.

In 2023, the actor said the family had sold their Florida home and were living on the road, staying in temporary accommodation while he worked on productions.

Alan, 43, has become best known for playing Jack Reacher in Prime Video's action series 'Reacher'. Before landing the role, he appeared in productions including 'Blue Mountain State', 'Smallville', 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire', 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and 'Fast X'.

Alan Ritchson Previously Filed for Divorce

The couple's latest announcement follows a previously reported change in their marriage. According to legal documents reported by other outlets, Alan filed for divorce on 1 December 2025, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple subsequently reconciled in March 2026 before announcing their latest decision to end the marriage in September.

Their joint statement did not provide details about what led to their final decision. Instead, Alan and Catherine asked the public and media to give their family privacy and compassion as they adjust to their new circumstances.

'After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,' they said.

The couple added that they had 'built a life and a family together' and were raising three sons, describing their children as 'the centre of our world'. They said they continued to have love and respect for one another and wanted to approach the next chapter with 'friendship, grace and a commitment' to becoming the strongest co-parents they could be.

Although the couple have publicly confirmed that they are ending their marriage, their statement focuses on the decision to separate and co-parent rather than providing details about the legal status of their divorce.

For now, Alan Ritchson and Catherine Ritchson appear committed to a united approach to raising their three sons while beginning a new chapter separately.
