American Horror Story season 6 premiered this Wednesday (14 September) and the details about the FX series have finally been revealed. Season 6 of the hit show is titled My Roanoke Nightmare, which is based on a colony that went missing in 1590 in North Carolina.

The premiere featured a crime-style documentary, with reenactments of a couple's experience "based on true events." The episode opened with couple Shelby Miller (Lily Rabe as a talking head, Sarah Paulson in the reenactments) and Matt Miller (Andre Holland as a talking head and Cuba Gooding Jr in reenactments) leaving Los Angeles after a random act of violence. The couple moves to Roanoke Island in North Carolina, where strange things begin to happen in their newly bought farmhouse.

Other than the theme, viewers also got to see some of the returning and new cast members for AHS season 6. Actor Paulson, Rabe, Denis OHare, Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates return to the FX series, with Cuba Gooding Jr among the newcomers. The rolling credits revealed additional cast members including Evan Peters, Denis O'Hare and Cheyenne Jackson.

FX has released a trailer that teased what was in store for the upcoming episodes. The preview features Kathy Bates's character in the middle of a cult ritual. Bates's character looks at Shelby and yells, "Seize her." Episode 2 will begin with Shelby getting lost in the woods, as she tells her husband, "Human sacrifice... they were practising devil worship"

It looks like there is trouble ahead for Shelby and Matt as Denis OHare's character appears in a blurry video and says, "[There is] Something here... in the woods...in the house and it intends to kill me." Then we see Bates's character breaking the farmhouse windows and claiming, "This place is mine. I protect this place. I shall stop at nothing to save this colony."

American Horror Story fans had mixed reactions after the premiere episode and they took to Twitter to share their views. While some were disappointed over the show's theme being a secret, others are excited about the upcoming season.
