Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update

Sony has now confirmed the Android 4.3 treatment for a wide range of Xperia devices, including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1. The roll-out will begin next month.

Besides, a few devices such as Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V will be directly upgraded to Android 4.3 (instead of Android 4.2) form December.

Android 4.4 KitKat Update

The Android 4.4 Kitkat update, as Sony mentioned, will be available for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1. The company is yet to provide details on definite release date for Android 4.4. However, it noted that it will update users (through its social newsroom) with the specific information on product upgrade timings and software features.

It should be noted that the update will be rolled out in phases, therefore, the timings and availability might vary depending on the regions and carriers.

Xperia devices out of the list

The Xperia ZR currently running Android 4.2, which features the similar hardware configuration like the Xperia Z and ZL, will not get Android 4.4. Additionally, the Xperia SP will not receive the KitKat touch although the handset sits just under the flagship, Xperia Z in terms of technical features, reports Xperia Blog.

As for the Android 4.3, a number of latest low-end handsets such as Xperia L, Xperia M and Xperia C failed to make it to the update list.
