Mario Mandzukic

Arsenal have opened talks with Bayern Munich striker Mandzukic for a move in the summer, according to the Metro.

The striker's agent was reportedly in London to discuss terms with the north London club who are in the market for a frontman to replace Olivier Giroud, who has been in abysmal form this season.

Mandzukic is likely to make his way out of the club owing to the presence of Robert Lewandowski, who will join Bayern in the summer from Dortmund, making it difficult for the Croatian to get any game time.

The burly striker has scored 23 times in 36 appearances for the club and is known for his all-round contribution to the team.

The player has been an integral part of the Bayern team which has walked the Bundesliga over the past couple of years, pressing the ball and not giving the opposition defenders time to play out from the back.

His physicality makes him a notable presence in the box and his ability to win a header is among the best in the business.

His arrival will give the Gunners an outlet, who can hold the ball up and finish with aplomb, something which Giroud has struggled to do over the course of this season.

The striker has attracted interest from the likes of Inter Milan and Real Madrid but his agent suggests that he is willing to move to the Premier League this season over any other league.

The striker is valued at £10m and will be a good acquisition for Arsene Wenger, allowing him to spend money on other recruits.

The Gunners have been in shambolic form over the past couple of months and the ignominy was exacerbated by their 6-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Arsenal failed to beat a top team away from home for the third time this season, conceding 17 goals in the process.
