Overview

Federer sealed a berth in the last 16 of the first Grand Slam of the year by defeating Grigor Dimitrov on 22 January. The Bulgarian fought to make it 1-1 after losing the opening set, but was unable to trouble the former world number 1 in the next two sets as Federer won the match 6-4, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

The latest victory was the Swiss tennis star's 300<sup>th career Grand Slam win and is just six wins away from overtaking Martina Navratilova in the most number of Grand Slam wins in tennis. He is in a firm position to make it to the quarter-final of the Australian Open with a win on Sunday.

Goffin had to defeat Dominic Thiem in the third round tie as he had to fight hard to seal the win to make it to the pre-quarters. He defeated the Australian in four sets as the final score was 6-1, 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.
