The Big Bang Theory season 8 finale ended with Leonard and Penny driving to Vegas to get married, but they are clearly not on the same page.
After Leonard confessed that he kissed another woman during his time on the North Sea research expedition, Penny is unsure about going through with it.
Showrunner Steve Molaro recently dished on the future of Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki). According to him, the couple will continue to journey to Las Vegas, but the season 9 premiere episode will reveal whether or not they actually get married.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Molaro said, "They're still driving to Vegas but the mood is certainly a little chilly. They're in a very interesting place and we'll find out what happens when they get there."
The producer also dished on Leonard's shocking confession, and how his infidelity will affect his relationship with Penny.
"She's processing it but so far she wants to move forward. That is to be determined," Moralo teased, and hinted at an impending breakup.
"We're all very invested in all these characters. People hit road bumps in their lives and hopefully they'll deal with it or not, but that's the fun excitement of what we're looking to have happen coming back," he teased.
When asked if season 9 premiere episode will feature a wedding, the Showrunner said, "We're hoping that everyone tunes in and joins us in the fall to find out."
Will Penny and Leonard break up? Will the couple decide to continue with their relationship and move past Leonard's infidelity? All questions will be answered when the show returns in fall, 2015.
