A-list couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were targeted by thieves in Los Angeles, according to a celebrity gossip website.

In a TMZ report, an unidentified man in black gloves attempted to steal iPads belonging to the Mr and Mrs Smith stars after breaking into their car.

The incident occurred as their eldest son Maddox went paintballing with friends at the Hollywood Sports Paintball Park in Bellflower, California.

One of the computers was reportedly labelled 'family,' and shared between the couple's six children - Vivienne, Knox, Shiloh, Zahara, Maddox and Pax.

Police arrested the thief at the scene after witnesses spotted the crime taking place and alerted security guards. The gadget is said to contain private family photos.

Pictures published by TMZ show the suspect being arrested by the Sheriff, before being driven away in a police car.

In the wake of the attempted robbery, the owner of the paintball venue reportedly tried to make amends with Maddox and his minder by treating them to free food.

Pitt, 48, and Jolie, 38, who have been together for eight years, are expected to wed later this year.
