The suspected remains of a newborn baby have been found at a recycling plant in Ireland, according to police. The discovery was made on Wednesday morning (4 May) at the Greenstar waste facility in Bray, County Wicklow.

The plant has been cordoned off as a forensic team examined the scene. The police have not yet revealed the circumstances surrounding the discovery but said enquiries are ongoing.

A police spokesman added: "Gardai in Bray are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of what is believed to be the body of a newborn baby this morning at a recycling facility in Bray, Co. Wicklow. The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination and the offices of the state pathologist have been notified.

"The Garda Technical Bureau are due to attend the scene. Enquiries are ongoing. No further information is available at this stage. Further updates will follow."

Gardai were alerted about the discovery at 11am. Greenstar says it is helping the police with their inquiries.
