Bruce Blakeman Says He and Paul McCartney Avoid One Topic After Beatle Married His Ex-Wife

Bruce Blakeman says he and Paul McCartney have agreed never to discuss politics, despite their sharply different views, after the former Beatle married Blakeman's ex‑wife, Nancy Shevell.

The Republican politician and Nassau County executive, who was married to Shevell for 23 years, admitted it still feels 'a little surrealistic' that his former spouse is now married to 'one of the most famous musicians in the world'.

Blakeman explained that there is no animosity between himself and the former Beatle, describing McCartney as a 'nice guy' who treats his son well. The Nassau County executive, who is a known supporter of US President Donald Trump, discussed the unusual relationship with the famous musician.

While Blakeman and McCartney have very different political outlooks, the subject is one they have chosen to leave out of their conversations. 'Our politics are probably not the same,' he pointed out. 'But we don't talk about politics.'

Blakeman is a supporter of President Donald Trump, while McCartney has publicly criticised Trump and expressed concerns about American politics. The former Beatle has also spoken publicly about climate change and other political issues.

Rather than allowing those differences to affect their relationship, Blakeman said the two simply avoid the subject. The connection between them comes through Shevell, whom Blakeman was married to for 23 years. The former couple share a son, Arlen, and Blakeman said McCartney has been a good stepfather to him.

'He's my son's stepfather, and he treats my son very nicely. He's a nice guy,' he said.

Shevell and McCartney married in London in October 2011, several years after they began dating. Shevell had previously been married to Blakeman for more than two decades. She and McCartney's relationship became public after they were photographed together in the Hamptons in the late 2000s.

The couple eventually married at Marylebone Town Hall, where McCartney had also married his first wife, Linda McCartney, in 1969. Shevell was 51 at the time of her wedding to McCartney, while the musician was 69. McCartney and Shevell have remained together.

In a 2026 interview, McCartney spoke warmly about his relationship with Nancy, describing the pair as very different but saying they understand how to be with each other.

Blakeman Says He Has Moved On

Despite the unusual circumstances, Blakeman appeared keen to emphasise that his former marriage is in the past. 'I wish my wife well. We were married for 23 years. We had a wonderful child together,' he said.

Blakeman has since remarried Nassau County Family Court Judge Segal Blakeman. He said his current wife has brought two stepchildren and three grandchildren into his life. 'Life goes on,' he said.

His comments offer a glimpse into an extended family dynamic involving a former Beatle, a New York politician and a marriage that has remained in the public spotlight for more than a decade.

While he acknowledges that seeing his former wife married to McCartney is surreal, he says the relationship is about family and maintaining a respectful connection. And when it comes to the one subject they have chosen to avoid, Blakeman and McCartney have found a simple solution: they just don't talk politics.
