The 20th annual amfAR Cinema Against Aids gala at the Cannes Film Festival 2013 revolved, unofficially, around the colour gold. American model Karlie Kloss' comment on a golden sunset, that formed the backdrop to the red carpet, was rather apt.

However, once the multitude of fashionable celebrities arrived, white appeared to the colour of the evening, with several stars arrayed in different shades of white.

Hollywood diva Sharon Stone led the way, taking inspiration from the late Elizabeth Taylor, and wore white Roberto Cavalli (she wore a blue Cavalli creation to the Cannes' red carpet in midweek). The 55-year-old Basic Instinct and Basic Instinct 2 star added a touch of mystery with elegant gold detailing, in the form of a snake, on her back. The look was completed with a tiny box clutch (gold, of course) and an unusual star-shaped bangle.

English model and actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stole a good deal of the spotlight in a stunning and strapless Christian Dior number, complete with matching Christian Louboutin shoes. Her blonde hair cascaded around her head in soft curls and her smoky eyes ensured she stood out for all the right reasons.

Australian singer Kylie Minogue made a rare public appearance, with her Spanish boyfriend in tow, and she too was in white Cavalli with, again, gold cut-out detailing. Her ensemble included layers of sheer fabric, which settled gracefully around, and added volume to, her petite frame.

The 44-year-old also kept her Twitter fans in the loop, uploading photographs as she got ready for the evening.

Meanwhile, American and Grammy Award-winning singer Janet Jackson wore a white pantsuit.
